...because I bet even Sonic sometimes takes five minutes to sit and look at the view ^_^
(and also because I set myself the challenge of doing a traditional media Sonic pic with a proper background for once, and wanted to play with my new markers. And oh yay, it turned out to be another character-sitting-on-a-rock pic, why do I always do those?!)
In case anyone's interested, that's the Emerald Hill Zone as seen in Sonic the Comic. Where- according to the comic anyway- Sonic grew up; unlike the games, STC gave him a fixed home. The (argh wonky) suspension bridge though is my invention. Somewhere along the way I 'decided' that the Metropolis Zone was not on South Island, therefore bridge. Not the one from SA2 though, that's a NEW bridge. So it's a bit like the river Severn. Yup <.< *insane*
Anyway, this drawing is not perfect, as it started out as an experiment and somehow got finished. I wasn't going for perfect. It's not the same technique as the other marker drawings I've posted here- I decided to revisit the style I used to use before Photoshop happened. Which is less a style and more like taking a drawing and throwing everything capable of making marks on paper at it. So marker pen base, coloured pencil over that, more pen, then black fineliner, still more pen, and then a bit of white paint.
Unfortunately, the scanner murdered the colours and for some reason decided to emphasise the marker streaks, which you can hardly see on the original because I spent three layers of marker pen trying to get rid of them. Oh well.
Gorgeous. Excellent coloring, background, and perspective in the background. I love the way you made Sonic real fuzzy-looking, not many people do that...yet I love seeing fuzzy Sonic. Also, great attention to detail here, on Sonic's shoes, the Rings, clouds, and palm trees in the background. I also like the way the grass is drawn - just enough detail to look realistic and not flat. Awesome job.
bring the origional to bristol..? i want to see it without the scanner attack. ^^ stc sonic will always beat his other comic incarnation, dispite the whole 'me hero, you nobody' attitude. cc
The suspension bridge reminds me of the one found in Sonic Advance 1 actually located in Neo Green Hill Zone :^D
Sonic's home is an often debated bit of trivia these days n_n For my fanfic I wanted to follow SegaSonic canon but it never really gave much information of Sonic's birthplace aside from South Island. Therefore I found it convinent to have Green Hill in South Island, but not all the zones (it'd have to be a huge island o.o). I worked it all out in a map.
Was there ever a map of the locales in Sonic the Comic? I'm quite interested at how they integrated all the classic zones together :^)
Nope. They just mentioned the odd location- The Hill zones, Chemical Plant Zone and the Frozen Zone are definately on South Island, Oil Ocean is somewhere in 'the north' and they never specified exactly where Metropolis is, but it's near a mountain range. I assumed Flickies Island is somewhere near South Island, as it must be close enough for a flicky to fly between the two. I've worked out a map as well
There were a few views of Mobius from space in various issues, but you can't tell much from those...
